Brief history of the Department:

The department, established in 1945, played a significant role in the development of Uzbek performing arts. Nazira Aliyeva and Lola Khojayeva made a notable contribution to Uzbek art and laid the foundations of the Uzbek stage speech school that has shaped the past, present and future of stage, cinema, radio and television speech culture.

S. Imonxo‘jayev created the teaching manuals “Fundamentals of Artistic Reading”, “Fundamentals of Expressive Reading”, and “Eastern Classical Oratory”, as well as, together with L. Khojayeva, the guide “Fundamentals of the Art of Artistic Speech”, which were extremely important for the department.

Scientific and practical cooperation:

Bachelor students studying at the department gain professional experience through practical training and creative scientific activities. They organize various events and participate in projects related to theatre, radio, television, dubbing, hosting, and speech directing.

Associate Professor R. Qodirov staged Chingiz Aitmatov’s work “Sarviqomat Dilbarim” at the Muqimiy State Musical Theatre in a new innovative interpretation. The performance has become a permanent part of the theatre’s repertoire.

The department also actively cooperates with regional musical theatres and puppet theatres in Andijan, Surkhandarya, Samarkand, Fergana, Jizzakh and the Republican Puppet Theatre.

Associate Professor I. Djumanov created plays such as “Ochil dasturxon”, “Uchar kovush”, “Uchta quvnoq do‘mboqcha”, “Sandiqsoz usta”, “Yo‘lchiroq”, “Amaldorning ayoli”, “Tilla tuyoqli ohu” and “Yuv toza bo‘l”, which are currently staged in puppet theatres for young audiences.

Lecturer I. Xomidov established cooperation with the “Nur Bolalar Kitobi” theatre studio under the “Yangi Asr Avlodi” publishing house, where performances such as “The Little Prince”, “Zumrad and Qimmat”, “Miracle”, and “Hellados” were staged.

He also developed the project “Creation of a mobile educational application for history for visually impaired university students”. The program was registered under certificate DGU 2022 7116 (08.12.2022).

Faculty members actively cooperate with the Uzbek National Academic Theatre, Puppet Theatre, the Cinematography Agency, the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, and Oriat Dono Radio.

International cooperation:

Since November 2015 cooperation between Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture, the British Council, the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan and Rose Bruford College (United Kingdom) has been successfully developing.

Exercises from master classes conducted by British specialist in stage speech and acting John Tucker were included in the teaching manual “Stage Speech” created by Associate Professor I. Djumanov and are now widely used in teaching acting and directing students.

From November 11 to December 12, 2018 John Tucker staged Shakespeare’s tragedy “Hamlet” with talented students of the institute’s 1–4 courses at the Educational Theatre. During the production process, Associate Professors I. Djumanov and V. Yusupova closely collaborated on speech technique and work with literary text.
