Brief history of the Department:
The Department of “Musical Theatre Art” was established in 1958.

People’s Artists such as R. Hamroyev, Sh. Ma’zumova, R. Sayfuddinov, O. Abdurazzoqov, S. Po‘latov, M. Uzoqov, V.N. Sundukova, B. Ixtiyorov, U. Zufarov, V.P. Volodchenko, G. Muxammedova, as well as famous conductors N. Xalilov, J. Ortiqov and many other distinguished artists and professors have worked at the department.

Today their work is continued by professors and teachers such as B. Nazarov, N. Qobilov, Sh. Muhammadiyev, R. Usnatov, E. Yorbekov, F. Farmonov, E. Xushvaqtov, U. Rasulov, B. Xusanov and O. Qudratov.

During more than half a century of activity, the department has trained many artists beloved by the public. Musical performances that became masterpieces of Uzbek theatre art have been staged. Among them are S. Abdulla and T. Jalilov’s “Tohir and Zuhra”, Hurshid’s “Layli and Majnun”, Komil Yashin’s “Alpomish” and “Ravshan and Zulxumor”, Hamza’s “Maysara’s Affair”, S. Ahmad’s “Ufq”, U. Hajibeyov’s “Arshin Mal Alan”, G. Kancheli’s “Khanuma”, U. Azim and B. Lutfullayev’s “The Return of Alpomish”, and R. Muhammadjonov’s “Matchmaker Brothers”.

In recent years, the department has become a laboratory of modern musical theatre dramaturgy. Playwrights and composers, together with the department’s professors and teachers, are creating works dedicated to the lives of young people in a modern spirit and bringing them to the stage. For example, the musical dramatic works “Death Penalty” by K. Raxmanov and O. Turemuratova, as well as “Toda” and “Oriyat” by N. Qobil and B. Lutfullayev were staged by the department’s teachers with the participation of students.

Professors and teachers of the department have published teaching manuals and books, and this process continues continuously. Numerous articles and scientific-methodological works by department members are regularly published in the journal “Theatre”, other media outlets, as well as international publications.
